DHL Expands Fleet, Focuses on Efficiency and Energy Conservation
DHL has announced that this year, more than 200 new vehicles will be joining the DHL Express U.S. fleet – making it one of the newest and most modern fleets in the industry.
From 2014-2015, approximately 75 percent of the U.S. fleet was replaced with new, more fuel-efficient vehicles.
Having invested nearly $50 million over the last two years, the company has reduced the average age of the fleet from 6.7 years in 2012 to the current 3.6 years. This year, the company also expanded its Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) vehicles in Detroit, Chicago and Elizabeth, NJ, and introduced the next generation of fully electric vehicles in New York and San Francisco. Additionally, DHL will be testing new Hybrid Electric vehicles in several locations.
The size of the fleet is substantial: It consist of more than 3,100 vehicles in the U.S., which includes: • Over 500 Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) vehicles
• 92 fully electric vehicles
• 54 Hybrid-electric vehicles
• 425 Certified clean diesel vehicles
• 70 High efficiency compact delivery vehicles
