XL Hybrids, the leader in fleet electrification solutions for commercial and municipal fleets, is reporting that customer vehicles equipped with the XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System are driving over 1 million miles a month, for a cumulative 15 million miles on the road.

The company has released several new case studies that highlight how the XL3 hybrid system helps commercial, shuttle, and municipal fleets reduce fuel consumption, lower operating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

  • XL HybridsCoca-Cola® operates the largest heavy-duty hybrid electric delivery fleet in North America. After adding 175 hybrid vans to their fleet and driving over 1.5 million service miles, vehicles with the XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System used approximately 20% less fuel compared to their conventionally-fueled vans. As a result, the company partnered with XL Hybrids to upfit over 100 more new vans with the innovative XL3 system.  View case study here.

  • Harvard University has cut greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 22% and dramaticallyXL Hybridsreduces fuel consumption on campus mail delivery routes. A review of the hybrid van’s on-road operational data showed a nearly 22% fuel and greenhouse gas emissions reduction over conventional cargo vans, yielding an annual C02 reduction of over one metric ton per vehicle per year.  View case study here.
  • PepsiCo North American Beverage has more than doubled the size of its hybrid electric van fleet, going from 30 vans to 70. With the XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System, PepsiCo North American Beverage is achieving a 20% reduction in fuel usage with more than a million cumulative road miles while achieving 99.9% vehicle uptime. Pepsi has committed to purchase additional units in 2015. View case study here.
  • Montgomery County, MD, is increasing fuel economy by 27% with the XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System. The County anticipates a total annual savings of over $1,500 per van – over $15,000 for the 10-van fleet – based on reducing fuel consumption and brake maintenance, and increased productivity. Montgomery County has committed to purchase additional units in 2015. View case study here.

The XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System works seamlessly in the background with zero impact on fleet operations or service, and no driver training or infrastructure requirements. The technology has a quick adoption rate for fleets since there’s no need for special plugs, charging or fueling infrastructure.
