GM and Lyft to Test Self-driving Taxis

| May 18, 2016

GM and Lyft partner

The era of autonomous driving and cab hailing are taking a giant leap into the future as General Motors and Lyft are reportedly about to l begin testing a fleet of self-driving Chevrolet Bolt electric taxis on public roads within a year.

At stake: a battle to reshape the auto industry, which in turn may very well transform fleets of all types.

The news comes only a short while following GM’s $500 million investment in alternative ride-hailing company, Lyft.

Specifics have not been disclosed but initial reports suggest that customers will have the choice to select, or opt out of the pilot when hailing a Lyft from the company’s app.

Beyond the cool technology, GM is clearly attempting to jump-start sales of the Bolt.  Passengers will notice that the Bolt’s battery is under the cabin floor, making the cabin feel more spacious.

Regulations loom and this is a race against the clock.  So start your engines!
