Green Biking Turns to Solar Power
If you like biking but could use a bit of an assist from time to time, then consider a solar-powered bicycle that can reach a top speed of 30 mph and deliver or range of nearly 40 miles.
Pretty cool.
So, instead of the most standard electric plug-in approach, Copenhagen-based engineer Jesper Frausig has come up with a solar-powered alternative that never needs to be plugged in.
His bike charges its battery from available sunlight when parked. Here’s how it works: the Solar Bike has cells built into both sides of both wheels, where most of us are accustomed to seeing spokes.
When the bike is parked it can capture enough power from available sunlight for a range of up to 15.5 miles each day, naturally depending on lighting conditions.
What’s more, if the bike is parked on an angle facing the sunlight, it can store enough electricity in its thermos-shaped battery for a 40-mile ride.
