Derive Efficiency for Ford Explorer Aims to Lower Police Fleet Fuel Costs
Automotive engine software maker Derive Systems has released its newest engine calibration software for the Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility.
The software is designed to improve idle fuel efficiency by lowering the idle RPM in the Explorer, a staple of law enforcement and government fleets. Derive Efficiency allows fleet managers, heads of law enforcement, and municipal leaders constrained by budget and looking for green initiatives to deliver fuel savings and reduce fleet emissions without giving up power and performance.
The company notes that its engineers specialize in powertrain management and calibrations, delivering a software that improves vehicle performance and drivability.
“We know the pressure that police chiefs, sheriffs, and municipal fleet managers are under to find cost savings while meeting ever-higher performance standards,” says Tom Kanewske, Derive’s Senior Director of Business Development. “Derive Efficiency is a simple and straightforward way for municipal and law enforcement fleets to slash fuel consumption and emissions without compromising the performance required to get their job done.”
Derive’s easy-to-implement software can be installed using a handheld device in less than 10 minutes, the company notes, and comes with a modest price tag under $400, meaning it typically pays for itself within six months.
Once installed, the engine software saves up to 30 percent in idle fuel consumption alone. Some customers have reporting savings up to three miles per gallon.
