Truck Transportation Jobs at 1.465 Million as of January

As 2016 rolls quick along, Fleet News Daily thought it would be helpful to look at key statistics on truck transportation employment and earnings — as provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The season adjusted number of truck transportation jobs stood at 1,465,700 as of the end of January.  More specifically,  in terms of sector truck drivers in heavy duty and tractor-trailers accounted for 56%, at 823,130.

Now to wages: the average hourly earnings stood at $22.67 per hour (as of December 2015) and average weekly hours were 42.1

So, who topped the charts in terms of yearly pay?  Firs-line supervisors, managers of transportation and material-moving machine and vehicle operators had the highest media income, at $55,540.  Conversely, truck drivers in the light or delivery services were at the bottom of the scale at $32,810.
